Flowers for Spring Fair

We spent a very busy Friday afternoon ripping up a mountain of newspaper and papier-mâchéd some plastic cut out flowers for the upcoming spring fair next term! Some of us were also busy painting them in a very bright and beautiful red colour too.

D and Dr

This week we are focusing on the letter D and the blend Dr. Today we made dolls and dresses to dress them.

The garden

Did you know that Mrs Turber runs a garden club on Thursday lunchtimes? Last term the garden club planted garlic and here are some photos of the room 23 children carefully watering the garlic. The garlic will also be sold at the gala.

Planting seeds getting Gala day ready

On the 1st of November we have the Arahoe Gala. Room 23 will be running the Garden Shed stall and will be selling fresh produce straight from the Arahoe Garden. Today and on Monday every child in room 23 learnt how to plant lettuce, spinach, kale, basil and parsley seeds into containers. We have now planted 100 containers! Now we just need to water them and hope they grow over the next seven weeks!

Reading to the class

The star of the day reading to the class!

Litter free lunch boxes

Look at these litter free lunch boxes! Aren't they fabulous?! Isn't it great that everything left over in the kids lunch boxes can go straight into the worm farm or composting bins. Hopefully we can see more litter free lunch boxes soon..

School Gala

The school gala is on the first weekend in November and Room 23 is running the Garden Shed stand. We will be selling worm tea, comfrey tea, seedlings,  sculptures for the garden and bird feeders all made by the room 23 children. If you are interested in helping on the day or donating some of the things listed below we would be very grateful. The classroom teachers are not given any financial assistance  to buy the things we need to get our stall up at running so your support in donating something would be amazing. If you want to help in the process of making the items for the stall please let us know.

We need
30 1x meter bamboo stakes
30 ping pong balls
Tin cans
Seeds for lettuce, spinach, herbs, silver beet
Bag of soil
5kg of bird seed
Left over house paint
30x Ice cream container lids
Test pots of red house paint
Black pipe cleaners
Fabric or material

Below is a photograph of the sculptures we are wanting to make to sell individually. Each child will be making one. Mrs Turner made this with her class last year and look simply stunning in the garden

In the garden

Today Mrs Turner and some keen gardeners from room 23 went into the garden at lunchtime to check on our tiger worms. The children are still very passionate about tiger worms and love visiting the worm farm. Do you still have yours up and running at home? Today two students checked the soil in the worm farm and discovered it was too wet, Did you know egg cartons are the perfect thing to add when the soil is too wet? Michelle and Cody knew the answer! We also collect worm tea. This will be sold at the room 23 stall at this years gala.

Star of the day

Each day we have a different child who is star of the day. When your the star it means extra responsibilities and one of those responsibilities is reading a book to the class. Great reading Louis.

Welcome back Mrs Turner!

Welcome back Mrs Turner! She is telling us all about her great adventures each day talking about one place at a time! Monday, we talked about her time in England seeing a beef eaters outside Buckingham Palace which we then started to pretend to be ourselves! We talked about her time visiting the Big Ben Tower and other famous attractions in London! How exciting. We missed her very much!

Weekend ideas

Fancy some bears on toast for breakfast? Here's something fun to try with your child this weekend if you need something to do!

Stormy weather

This one managed to keep a hail rock in her hand all the way to school this morning till after the morning roll just in time to show the class before it melted away! Completely slept though and didn't hear that storm last night. Fancy hail still being there in the morning!
