I is for ice block!
Room 19 have been working very hard this week to fill up the Pom Pom jar in our class. When the pom pom jar is at the top the children get to choose their treat. On Friday after a week of hard work it was full and the first thing they wanted was ice blocks because it started with I our letter of the week!

Vegetable patch picking
Mrs Turner and I decided it would be a great day to let room 19 venture into Arahoes very own orchard and vegetable patch again! This time we were able to pick a couple of cucumbers and tomatoes which we cut up for the class to eat. While we ate these we thought about what it tasted like which helped us come up with some very good words such as juicy, watery, crunchy and soft. While eating the pieces of cucumber we made a writing piece as a whole class on the board about our findings. It turned into a very practical and exciting writing lesson for everyone. Someone even took the rest of the cucumber home and made 'temakizushi' - hand rolled sushi for dinner!
Counting to 5!
Happiness to 5 year olds!
What is happiness to a 5 year old? It's finding 20 sticks and 20 cicada shells that match our number of the day!

Reading Notebooks
All of the room 19 children have notebooks that are kept inside their book bags, please record their readers each night and add comments as we check these notebooks regularly. At the beginning of the notebooks is the children's alphabet sticker book: we test the children each Friday on their letter knowledge ( if they know letter sound and name) and high frequency words. When your child knows the letter we place a sticker next to it. PLEASE keep practising every night with your child. Below is some photos so you know what to look out for. If you need any resources or advice on how to help your child let us know.

Treasure Box
We explored each other's box of treasure today for our art project where we will assemble our bits and bobs into an art work. We talked about why each item was inside our box, why it was special to us and where we would like to display the special item. Over the next few weeks we will be creating our pieces of art. Keep an eye out!

Orchard fruit picking
Room 19 were very lucky today to visit Arahoes very own orchard! We discovered grape vines, apple and peach trees! Mrs Turner and I decided to select a few students to pick a mixture of both apples and peaches to eat which we then cut up and let the children eat while writing a whole class story about it.
